A partner in the Litigation Department, Ariane specializes in congressional investigations and investigations. She has represented numerous public and private companies in public-facing congressional investigations and oversight proceedings, and has prepared high-ranking executives for significant congressional hearings. Ariane also has experience representing clients in internal investigations, complex multi-jurisdictional regulatory investigations, and workplace reviews.
In her broader litigation practice, Ariane has defended clients in a wide range of civil disputes, including complex commercial litigation, theft of trade secrets disputes, M&A disputes, employment litigation and securities litigation. Ariane also has extensive experience advising and counseling companies on the structural development and implementation of compliance systems and processes.
EXPERIENCE
Ariane has particularly extensive experience advising clients in congressional investigations and oversight proceedings, leveraging her familiarity with the key investigative staff of house and senate committees and subcommittees and understanding of the legal, media and reputational concerns that may arise in public proceedings. She has represented clients in oversight investigations launched by the House Oversight and Reform Committee, the Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee, the House Natural Resources Committee, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and the House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack. Ariane also has represented clients in sensitive internal and workplace investigations and government regulatory investigations concerning consumer protection, anti-money laundering, sanctions and antitrust violations. - A prominent U.S. trade association in connection with a House Oversight and Reform Committee investigation and CEO-level hearing on climate change.
- A prominent multinational technology company in connection with its response to an investigation by the House Oversight and Reform Committee related to a natural disaster and worker safety at the retailer’s facilities, as well as an investigation by a Senate committee regarding worker safety.
- A leading global provider of mobility solutions with advice regarding a response to inquiries from the U.S. Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy and House Oversight and Reform Committee.
- A multinational financial technology company in connection with preparing an executive to testify in a congressional hearing regarding fraud and scams affecting peer-to-peer payment platforms.
- A non-U.S. e-commerce platform in responding to a subpoena by the U.S. Select Committee on January 6 and House Oversight and Reform Committee.
- Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in an independent investigation and audit of policies and procedures regarding safety at the organization's children's behavioral health programs nationwide.
Ariane also has significant experience representing clients in high-stakes commercial litigation, including at trial and in arbitration proceedings. She has defended clients in matters spanning diverse industries, including technology and software, pharmaceuticals and financial services. Select examples of her litigation experience include:
- An automotive technology leader in the development of both affirmative and defensive claims in potential litigation associated with the constrained supply of automotive chips.
- A global technology company in an arbitration victory against a spun-off entity concerning contractual agreements that governed the parties’ ongoing obligations to one another and to their joint clients after the spin-off.
Ariane maintains a significant pro bono criminal appeals practice. She represents pro bono clients in cases involving actual innocence, capital criminal defense and juvenile sentencing reform. Ariane has obtained three exonerations for clients on the basis of actual innocence claims.
